Improving water quality, addressing drought and making cities climate-resilient: the challenges facing the Flemish water chain are significant. That's why Aquafin actively collaborates with the Flemish Region, cities and municipalities, drinking water companies, engineering consultancies, contractors and innovative players.
Our unique position means we are increasingly taking on a connecting and coordinating role. By sharing knowledge and aligning plans, we deliver solutions faster, more efficiently and with as much added value for society as possible.
Flemish Region
Aquafin is a trusted partner of the Flemish Region for the financing, construction, optimisation and management of supra-municipal infrastructure for sewage treatment. We perform this role in close coordination with other partners in the water chain, ensuring that investments and infrastructure contribute to a coherent and efficient system.
Collaboration with drinking water companies and municipalities
More than one in three Flemish cities and municipalities entrust their sewer management to Aquafin through structural partnerships with the drinking water companies De Watergroep (Riopact), water-link and Pidpa.
By managing municipal and supra-municipal infrastructure in an integrated way, we make sewer management more efficient and less fragmented. At the same time, we support local authorities with advice on creating climate-resilient and liveable public spaces.
Engineering consultancies and contractors
Aquafin is one of the largest clients for infrastructure projects in Flanders. We see engineering consultancies and contractors not simply as executors, but as partners in delivering complex water projects. That's why we work with our technical partners to build relationships based on trust and transparency. In collaboration with the sector, we are committed to the safe and sustainable execution of all planned works.
Collaboration with industry
Aquaplus is Aquafin’s subsidiary dedicated to industrial clients. Whether the focus is renovation, process optimisation, asset management, operations, water reuse or full project delivery from design to realisation, every assignment requires in-depth expertise in water treatment. Aquaplus relieves clients of these concerns, allowing them to concentrate fully on their core activities.
Breaking new ground with innovation partners

We work with innovation partners in industry, energy, technology and the circular economy. From initial concept to pilot project, we bring stakeholders together to develop solutions that go beyond conventional water management.
Our societal playing field is constantly expanding. We are connecting – both literally and figuratively – to new sectors. Our new sludge treatment plants are being built on industrial sites, where we both use residual heat and supply it to industrial facilities, such as those in the steel industry. As a result, entirely new stakeholders are continually emerging for us. It is a challenging yet exciting prospect.
